Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) After graduating with a degree in architecture, Sciolari began training as a film director. When his father died unexpectedly in 1949, he returned home to run the family business, Sciolari Lighting (founded in 1892)

Sometime in the 1950s, Sciolari became the in-house designer for legendary lighting manufacturer Stilnovo—founded by designer Bruno Gatti in Milan in 1946. In the mid-to-late-1960s, Sciolari’s designs for his own manufacturing company began to take off with high-end interior designers in Europe and the US. Many agree that his best designs were created during the 1970s. Today his designs are highly sought-after.
