History
Poul Cadoivus was born in Denmark in 1911 and had studied to become a saddler and upholsterer. He later began designing furniture and had a particular interest in modular, adaptable furniture which could fit into any room or design, this led to the design of the Royal System. In 1944 he created variations of modular shelving both free standing and wall mounted. Following this, his focus became functional furniture. In the mid-1960s Cadovius purchased the already famed furniture company France & Son, which later became known as Cado, for which he and other designers designed numerous pieces. Cadovius is still considered one of the great designers of the 20th century for his innovative approach to modular shelving and kit furniture.
