About Karolina Larusdottir:
Karolina was a painter and printmaker who was born in 1944 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Her prints and paintings are indicative of a childhood filled with native characters and customs. Karolina’s grandfather, Jóhannes Jósefsson (wrestling world champion and strongman in the same circus as Harry Houdini) opened the first grand hotel in Reykjavik, Hotel Borg. Karolina took much inspiration from her childhood holidays with many of her prints depicting chefs and chambermaids and guests taking tea. She studied at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford (1965-1967) and lived and worked in Britain for many years after leaving Iceland in the mid 1960s. Toward the end of her life she moved back to Reykjavik. She died on 7th February 2019.
