Mid 20th Century West German Lava Vase
Made by Scheurich Keramik, West Germany
Marked on the base in relief: Made In Germany 317 – 38 (shape number, the second number refers to the height on the vase)
Made with white clay
The Glaze is made up of black and red colours, with a highly textured finish in order to resemble Lava. The innterior glaze is dark grey/black
The shape has a narrow neck which becomes more bulbus before narrowing at the base

Scheurich Keramik is a well known ceramic manufacturer still in production today
The company was founded and started as a wholesale glass and porcelain business in 1928 by Alois Scheurich and Fridolin Greulich. In 1954 they started to produce ceramics using the first electrical kiln. During the 1970s Scheurich were producing striking pieces with bold colours and lava effects, popular at the time and synonymous with the West German ceramic aesthetic that we are familiar with today.

Condition report:

Good Condition – Good original condition, with some minor signs of wear commensurate with age and use. There are some light marks around the neck (more images available on request)
